Our Records
Largest thermal energy storage plant
Dubai’s DEWA and Noor Energy 1 set a world record with a 5,907 MWh thermal energy storage plant on June 25, 2023. Using CSP technology with molten salt, this system enables 24/7 electricity generation, supporting the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and Net Zero Emissions Strategy 2050. The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, home to the world’s largest thermal storage capacity, reinforces Dubai’s leadership in clean energy.
DEWA has also achieved the world’s lowest solar energy prices five times, setting a global benchmark for affordability and sustainability.
Tallest concentrated solar power tower
The tallest concentrated solar power tower is 263.126 m and was achieved by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) & Noor Energy 1 (both UAE) in Dubai, UAE, on 29 May 2023.
Dubai’s DEWA and Noor Energy 1 achieved the world’s tallest CSP tower at 263.126m on May 29, 2023. This milestone supports Dubai’s vision to lead in sustainable technology, meeting growing energy demands while advancing the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy. By 2050, Dubai aims for 100% of its power production to come from clean energy sources.
Longest continuous concentrated solar power plant operation
The longest continuous concentrated solar power plant operation is 39 days and was achieved by Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA) (UAE), in Dubai, UAE from 11 May 2024 and 20 June.2024.
DEWA has set a remarkable milestone with the Mohamed Bin Rashid Solar Park (MBR), embodying a powerful testament to innovation and sustainability. Through this initiative, DEWA not only pushed the boundaries of clean energy but also contributed significantly to Dubai’s Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and its ambitious goal of achieving Net Zero by 2050. The record-breaking achievement of the longest continuous operation of a concentrated solar power (CSP) plant — running for an impressive 39 days, 15 hours, and 32 minutes — highlights the potential of renewable energy in powering a sustainable future.
Highest capacity single-operator concentrated solar power plant
The highest capacity single-operator concentrated solar power plant is 700 MW and was achieved by Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA) (UAE), in Dubai, UAE in April 2024.
The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has made an extraordinary leap in sustainable energy by achieving the highest capacity single-operator concentrated solar power (CSP) plant, with a groundbreaking 700 MW capacity.
As part of the Mohamed Bin Rashid Solar Park, this 700 MW plant represents a bold step toward realizing Dubai’s Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and DEWA’s goal of achieving Net Zero by 2050. The project underscores the immense potential of solar power to meet the growing energy demands of the future while minimizing environmental impact.
